Legend Park is
an educational play group designed to prepare children for the exciting
challenges of school. We use social interaction, individual attention, and
learning assessments to help children fulfill kindergarten requirements. Our
program is designed to smooth the transition from home to school.
Religious Beliefs
Our center does
not teach nor enforce any religious activity. However, during the holidays,
Christian based themes will be used for decorations and art projects. Halloween
is celebrated with non scary costumes, parade, party, and activities to teach
about harvesting. Witches and goblins are taught as mystical creatures and not
as icons. Please share any concerns or suggestions you may have in regards to
the curriculum if it conflicts with your beliefs.
Behavior Management
At
Toys & Personal Items
Your child may
bring toys from home on the condition that they share. Please do not bring
items that are really special, fragile, or have small pieces. Toys have been
known to break or get lost. We also ask that items such as perfume, sprays, and
make-up stay at home. To keep toys together and to reduce the chance of them
getting lost, we request that they come in a back pack. To help children
remember this rule, if they bring toys and forget their back pack, they will
not be allowed to play with them.
Clothing
Please dress
your child in comfortable clothes. Keep in mind that they will be playing
outside and using paint/markers. You may want to label jackets, shoes, and back
packs. We have had cases where more than three kids have had the same item and
in the same size.
Birthdays
A child’s
birthday is a very important part of their life. We will celebrate with a party
and you are welcome to send in treats. Please ask the director for a list of
allergies.
Facebook Access
Legend Park
Pre-School does have a Facebook account. This site was created for those with
students that have, are or will be attending Legend Park. This offers an
opportunity to meet each other and become informed of current events as well as
view pictures of activities that have been done. In cases of unplanned closures
or schedule changes, I will be able to post that information quickly to our
Facebook page. To protect your privacy, I created this page as a “Friend Page”
and not a business. By doing this, I have the authority to choose who can
become members and who cannot. Only friends and people whom I select will be
permitted to be a part of this group. When pictures are posted they will only
be viewable to those that are accepted to Legend Park’s page. The photos will
not be tagged. I will leave that option up to you to choose the pictures that
you would like. This also helps to ensure everyone’s privacy. Please be aware
though, that I cannot control which pictures are posted by other parents. I can
only send out a request with a list of the names of parents that do not wish to
participate in the photo exchange program. I ask that all parents respect that fact
that some of the other parents may not want their children’s pictures posted,
and to refer to the list prior to posting. As an extra measure, it may be best
to run it by the center prior to posting as well. It is important that we
respect everyone’s privacy. As always, every effort will be made to ensure the
safety of all the students.
Field Trips
Exploring the
world around us is the best educational resource we have. Monthly field trips
correspond with the current lesson. Volunteers are welcome. A sign-up sheet
will be available in September. We are unable to accommodate every parent that
would like to volunteer on these field trips. Each trip is carefully planned
for the safety of your child. And as always, these fun filled, educational
adventures are included in your child’s tuition.
Volunteers
There are
several things that you can do to be a part of your child’s preschool
experience. These opportunities include field trips, parties, and prepping art
projects. We understand and appreciate the desire for each parent to be an
active part of their child’s activities; however I find that it can often
hinder the child’s progress if the parent is consistently at school with them. If
there is an activity that you would like to be involved in, please let the
center know ahead of time. In order for the child to develop their own
independence, we need to limit the amount of volunteers both in the classroom
and on fieldtrips as it becomes too distracting for the staff and students. However,
the volunteering opportunities to help us outside of the classroom with things
such as prepping for art projects, etc. are greatly appreciated. Also remember
that on the final zoo field trip, ALL parents are encouraged to attend!
Illness
If your child
is not feeling well, please keep them home and notify the center. We want our
children to be happy and comfortable when they are here. To keep our staff and kids
healthy, you will be asked to pick up your child should they start experiencing
flu-like symptoms or develop an unexplained rash. Please use the Exclusion
Guidelines to determine if participation is an option for your child. Please
ask the Director for exclusion guidelines list.
Closures
Legend Park Pre-School
follows the Puyallup School district calendar for closures. A current list will
be updated every September. Ask director for details.
Payment Options
Currently, the
payments are due the first Monday of every month. All payments are prorated and
divided evenly over ten months. This helps to eliminate the confusion during
holidays and months with five weeks. You also have the option for paying for
the while year in advance. In doing so, you will receive a discount. As of
right now, this option is only available for the 4’s class. If, for some reason
you have to pull your child, then the remainder will be reimbursed to you after
the previous balance is deducted at the original rate. Tuition can be sent in
the weekly folder, handed directly to a staff member or mailed. There is also a
secure drop box just outside of Legend Park’s door.
Fire Drills & Safety
Measures
We often have discussions
on fire safety and other emergencies that may occur. To accompany the lesson,
we will have a fire drill. In the event of a real emergency, the children will
be escorted to the front and across the street. We will have registration
cards, emergency kits, and a cell phone to notify parents. You can expect to
see the same staff every day. On occasion we may have a substitute. For safety
reasons, you will be required to show valid ID. This is extremely important,
even if your child recognizes the adult; it does not mean that they have the
authorization to pick up. For the protection of the staff and children, we ask
that you carry your ID when picking up your child. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated.
